A disaster of a most extraordinary nature is reported to have occurred in a Pennsylvania coal mine on Saturday. During a heavy thunderstorm lightning flashed down the mine which is 1,300 feet deep, and killed three miners who were at work near the bottom of the shaft. A steel rail which runs down the shaft evidently acted as a conductor for the lightning. |
