Two men were killed in an accident at the Niddrie Pit, Midlothian. They were engaged in getting ready a steam-pipe when they were overcome by the intense heat. One of them (Thomas Banks) was suffocated, and the other (Thomas Keary) became unconscious, and, falling to the bottom of the shaft, was killed.

In the same paper:

It is reported that a body was discovered lying between the rails and the platform at the Great Northern Station, Ikeston, is that of Robert Bingham, a young miner, of West Hallam, who suddenly disappeared from a group of friends on the platform.
